Outer Mission

Data as of Oct 7, 2026

The Outer Mission stretches along Mission Street from Balboa Park toward the Daly City line, between the Excelsior to the east and the Oceanview/Merced/Ingleside hills to the west. It is a working residential neighborhood of single-family homes on narrow lots, many built in the 1920s–1950s, with a sprinkling of small multi-unit buildings; houses make up nearly all of the sales we track here.

Balboa Park station, the BART stop and Muni Metro yard at the neighborhood’s northern edge, is one of the best-connected transit hubs in the southern part of the city, with the J, K and M light-rail lines and frequent Mission Street buses. Interstate 280 runs along the northern boundary, and Mission Street’s small shops and restaurants serve the daily needs of the area.
